上の英詞はcureの『freakshow』のもの。
遅ればせながら、感想ですが。
一言でいってめっちゃいい。
ライブで聴いたときはあまりピンと来なかったけれども、
スタジオバージョンはめっちゃ素晴らしいですね～～。
パワフルで、ギターのディストーションも効いていて。

雰囲気としては『the head ont the door』の頃の感じがするなー。
すごくあの頃の音によく似ている。
でも、昔の音の模倣ではないんだよね。
私的には『a man inside my mouth』というB面集の曲に似ていると思うんですけれども。
でも、絶対にあの頃の模倣ではない。
いまのcureの音の解釈がそこにはある。
たぶんポール先生のギターテクのせいもあるんでしょうけれども。
それ以上に、自分たちの今までやってきた音楽の再確認をしているというような気がするんですよ。
よくは分からないんですが、
でも情報とかを見る限り、1990年代のcureはあまりいい時期じゃなかった。
ブリット・ポップ全盛ということもあったろうし、
もうcureは終わったみたいにいわれていたけれども、
2000年代には言って、new wave revivalがでてきて、cureが再評価されるようになって、
ロバートも自分の音作りに自信を持ったというか。
失いかけていた音楽の情熱や自信を取り戻したんだと思う。
若い世代が彼らを評価することで。
それでもういちど、自分たちのやってきた軌跡を辿ってみようという気持になったんじゃないのかな？

あの4年前にでたセルフ・タイトルのアルバムは
古参のファンにはえらく評判が悪いですが、
でも、ロバートがロスの情熱によって
cureへの情熱を取り戻したという点ではもっと評価していいんじゃないかな？
たぶん彼がいなかったら、いまのcureの好調はないんじゃない？
そう思わせるぐらい、音が確信に満ちていて、
聞いていてすごいって思う。
本当に音が若々しくて、
20代のわたしが聞いても若いバンドが作ったんじゃないのって思うほど。

そして、すごくポスト・ロック的でもある。
モグワイとか、一緒にツアーした65 days of staticsっぽい感じもするんだよな～～～。
若いバンドの影響も少なくないと思う。

cureが開発してきたポップ的な要素と、
ポスト・ロック的な残陣なおとの側面がうまく融合された
ある意味、cureの新局面を打ち出した作品って気がするな～～～。

アルバムがめっちゃ楽しみ。
今月出たシングルも素晴らしい。

こういう経験の長いバンドって本当に時々すごいパワーを見せるよな～～。
経験が長い分、すごく停滞することもあるけれども、
やはり長年第一線で活躍してきたという地力が他のバンドとちがうというか。
cureの底力を見たような気がしました。
